This toad inhabits coniferous and deciduous forests, open plains, river valleys and marshy bushland; simple pools of water are all it needs. Diurnal, it feeds on insects. Its skin contains toxins that protect it from virtually all predators.
Unlike the frog, which has a smooth skin, the toad has a rough skin and lives completely on land.
