The Chilean flamingo is found in the Andean regions of southern Peru, Bolivia and Chile. Its plumage is much pinker than that of the European flamingo.
There are 6 species of flamingo, measuring between 1.20 and 1.45 m and weighing between 2 and 4 kg. Gathered in large colonies, sometimes as many as 2 million individuals, they live in estuaries and salt lakes, where they find their food.
All flamingos build a nest from mud. They always nest in colonies, on or near the water. The female lays a single white egg weighing around 100g. She incubates it for 28 days.
