There are over 3,000 species of stick insects, most of which live in tropical and equatorial regions. They are herbivorous insects that feed on brambles, pyracantha, St John’s wort, roses, raspberries, etc.
To survive, they blend into their environment by imitating twigs, branches and thorny stems to perfection. Their main predators are birds, small mammals, insects and spiders.
Stick insects reproduce by parthenogenesis: the female does not need to be fertilised, and the species has no males. Like all stick insects, it lays eggs.
