Spurred lapwings live in a wide variety of habitats. They generally live in arid areas, but are never far from waterholes. This small wader is not very sociable. It has a spur on the bend of its wing to defend itself against intruders entering its territory. It feeds on worms, larvae and insects, and very rarely on small crustaceans or mammals.
The female lays 4 eggs in a small cavity dug in the ground, incubated by both parents for 24 days, with the chicks remaining in the nest for eight to nine weeks.
IUCN status: Least concern (appendix III)
